Coto Brus is famous for its coffee, ranching and nature reserves but it is not well known that here we also find the ideal climate for growing tea.

Coto Brus is home to an incredible variety of plants, one of which is Camellia Sinensis, the tea plant. The acid soil, high humidity, abundant rain and temperate climate is tea’s favoured habitat.

I have been making small quantities of high quality tea for about a year , from five bushes planted four years ago. Tea is now being harvested every two weeks, producing 2 to 3 ounces of tea each time. This may be green, oolong or black tea according to how it is processed.

Three years ago 50 seedlings were planted which will be coming into production in 2024.

Unlike coffee, tea grows easily with no pesticides or fertilizers.

Coto Brus es famoso por su café, ganadería y reservas naturales pero no es muy conocido que aquí también encontramos el clima ideal para el cultivo del té.

Coto Brus es el hogar de una increíble variedad de plantas, una de las cuales es Camellia Sinensis, la planta del té. El tierrra ácido, la alta humedad, la lluvia abundante y el clima templado son el hábitat favorito del té.

He estado haciendo pequeñas cantidades de té de alta calidad durante aproximadamente un año, a partir de cinco arbustos plantados hace cuatro años. Estoy cosechando te cada dos semanas, produciendo de 2 a 3 onzas de té cada vez. Este puede ser té verde, oolong o negro según cómo se procese.

Hace tres años, planté 50 matas de te que comenzarán a producir en 2024.

A diferencia del café, el té crece fácilmente sin pesticidas ni fertilizantes.
